Updated: Jul 30

The “kids” are all grown up. Traveling with adult children definitely looks a little different than going on trips when they were little kids. This article will explore the top 5 destinations to travel in 2025 with your adult children.

Japan

Japan is a major hot spot for 2025. Dedicate at least a week to this beautiful country, preferably 10+ days. Japan is very rail friendly and it’s the easiest way to get around to the major cities. Most Markwood Magic travelers like to start their Japan adventures in Tokyo. Did you know that 20% of the Japanese populations lives in Tokyo? Night-owls will love the nightlive while those who are looking are looking to learn more about the culture would enjoy a food tour from a local Japanese guide or visiting the Sensoji Temple. Travelers into fashion should not miss the fashion-forward area of Shibuya. What city to travel to after Tokyo will depend on each family and what is on their wish list of destinations. That is what makes Markwood Magic great. We curate each trip specifically for each family. No two trips will be exactly the same in Japan.

Coastal Norway

Geirangerfjord

Norway is home to some of the world’s most beautiful Fjords which are long and narrow inlets of water surrounded by steep cliffs. Fjords were created over a period of 2.5 million years from erosion of glaciers that carved out deep valleys in the land. Some of the famous Fjords in Norway include: Geirangerfjord (a UNESCO World Heritage site), the Aurlandsfjord, the Nærøyfjord, and the Lysefjord. The Fjords have some stunning waterfalls and beautiful scenery which are perfect for those who love photography or just want to share pictures with friends back home.  Many travelers who have visited Alaska and enjoyed its glaciers and mountains love going to Norway to find a similar but more diverse destination. The best way to see the Fjords is to take a cruise.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica

Costa Rica has something for every adult member of your family. You can spend the week relaxing during a wonderful week at the beach or trying out the hot springs. If you want something a little more active, center your trip around seeing the wildlife and natural wonders. Costa Rica is home to toucans, monkeys, sloths, jaguars, frogs, and more, Arenal Volcano is what Costa Rica is known for. Walk across Arenal Hanging Bridges, enjoy horseback riding, or watch for wildlife during a fun safari float. Costa Rica is a country you will want to visit more than once. Gallo Pinto (rice and beans) is a very popular dish in Costa Rica. There are many small group tours for Costa Rica. We can also customize a trip for your traveling party.

Which Roman remains do you want to visit?

Mediterranean Cruise

The best part of a Mediterranean cruise is that you only unpack once and have the opportunity to visit multiple countries in a week or two. A cruise is the best way to see the Mediterranean, see the rich history and culture, and view the beautiful coastal cities. Where else can you see ancient Roman ruins one day and then have fantastic gyros the next? The Mediterranean region is fantastic for foodies for the abundance of authentic food. Try the fresh seafood, kebabs, pizza, tapas, gyros, and pasta. All can be paired along with wine. For shore excursions, we can create one private just for your traveling party or we can recommend group tours from both the cruise line and tour operators we work with. To see the biggest variety of cities/counties we recommend doing an open jaw cruise, meaning they start and end in different cities. Summer is the most popular time of year to cruise in the Mediterranean.

England

There are two ways to explore England. You can do do a British Isles cruise which our travelers love or you can do a land based tour which is what most of our Markwood Magic travelers do. You could easily spend a week just in London itself. London is a great choice for those newer to international travel as English is the primary language. For those who love history you can see Churchhill War Rooms. For those that love royalty, then Kensington Palace Palace is a must.

Bonus: Southern Caribbean Cruise

Southern Caribbean cruises include port stops at one of the ABC islands, Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao. This area of the world is best known for it beautiful beaches, great weather, and coral reefs. The coral reefs make it a great destination for both snorkeling and scuba diving. Itineraries that frequent the Southern Caribbean will start in San Juan. Yes, there are a few that depart from Florida and others that depart from different Caribbean countries. Because there are not as many departures from Florida, typically there are less kids on a Southern Caribbean cruise compared to other cruise lines. Schedule a consultation and I can share which specific cruise lines would be best for your adult trip.
